The Region 9 Economic Development District of SW Colorado (Region 9) successfully nominated Senator Michael F. Bennet and Senator Mark E. Udall (D-CO) for 2014 Congressional Partnership Awards for outstanding leadership in promoting federal community, economic, and infrastructure development programs. Both Senators were honored by the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) last month in Washington DC.
“Our Colorado Senators were honored for their leadership on the Farm bill, and collaboration on a variety of issues that positively impact Colorado. We also appreciate his receptiveness to southwest Colorado’s concerns regarding public lands including keeping PILT (payment in lieu of taxes),” said Laura Lewis Marchino, assistant director of Region 9.
NADO President Peter Gregory (Woodstock, VT) stated, “ Colorado’s Senators understand that programs for basic infrastructure, small business development, job creation, and comprehensive economic development planning are essential for the long-term competitiveness of our local communities.”
The biennial awards program recognizes members of Congress that have displayed strong support of regional development polices. Winners were selected based on their support of NADO’s national legislative priorities, such as funding for the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and other federal community and economic development programs, as well as supporting the work of regional development organizations at the local level.
